Old House Resources

"How can I get help restoring and preserving my historic house?"

While New Hampshire has no grants or state tax credits for owners of private residential historic properties, the Preservation Alliance offers guidance and resources to help you preserve our state's distinctive architectural heritage of historic homes.  If a property is income-producing, see Resources for Commercial Properties.

Our Preservation Directory lists contractors and services for old-house owners. And we have useful books for sale here and a new barn preservation book here.

The Old House Information and Tips section provides do-it-yourself tips, advice and links.  Whether you want to know about how to care for your home's distinctive features and finishes or the best overall approaches for a preservation project, the Alliance strives to be your go-to resource.  If you can't find what you're looking for, call or email us.

Our Old House & Barn Program offers lectures, workshops and tours to support old house stewards. Topics include dating a historic home, preserving wood windows or weatherizing an older home. Email to join our Old House & Barn email network and receive notice of upcoming programs.

Plan to attend our biennial Old House & Barn Expo, a two-day, one-stop resource fair you won't want to miss.  Our next Expo will be March of 2020.

Research your old house using the information from our blog

We encourage you to offer program suggestions or to share your old house stories.
