Rick Tillotson presents the story of the historic Balsams Grand Resort, in Dixville Notch. The Balsams was opened shortly after the Civil War as a 25 room inn. From 1870 – 1920, major construction projects grew the Balsams to the notable resort that it became. In the 1930s, the number of visitors staying at the grand hotels started to decline but the Balsams adapted and stayed in operation until 2011. In 1960, the resort began its tradition of hosting the “first in the nation voting” (although friends in Hart’s Location might have something to say about that—they started in 1948). Now under new ownership, efforts are underway to restore, expand and reopen the resort.
Open to the public; donations accepted at the door. Hosted by the Bartlett Historical Society.
