Join the Plainfield Historical Society for a day of barn exploration and celebration! The day will kick off at the Plainfield Town Hall with opening remarks by Steve Taylor, independent scholar, farmer, journalist and former Commissioner of the NH Dept. of Agriculture, and John Porter, author of Preserving Old Barns. The self-guided tour will include twelve 18th and 19th century barns with varied histories that reflect the rich agricultural heritage of Plainfield. Some have been restored and others await rehabilitation. Barn experts, Stan Graton and Ian Blackman, will offer workshops at two barns to discuss how to assess the needs of old barns and plan for restoration, and mason John McSwain will discuss his foundation restoration project at one of the barns. In addition, an all-day exhibit of barn photos and paintings showcasing the many old and new barns of Plainfield will be on view at the Town Hall, and the NH Preservation Alliance will have a table offering barn preservation resource materials and books.

Then to top off the day, kick up your heels from 7-9pm for an old fashioned barn dance with “Sensible Shoes” at Riverview Farm. Delicious eats will be available from Mac's Maple and Martha's On A Roll (food not included in ticket price). *This a family friendly event so bring the whole crew!
