Got Old House and Barn Questions?

Old house and barn owners always have lots of questions – whether it’s how to repair plaster ceilings, or which part of my needed barn work do I tackle first – this virtual session is set up to help. Join us for an informal Zoom session with preservation contractor Steve Bedard, Bedard Preservation & Restoration, and barn contractor Ian Blackman, Blackman Restoration & Preservation to get answers from the experts. Steve and Ian have over 65 years of experience working with old buildings and are eager to address your challenges, share their tips, and offer advice so you can make informed decisions when caring for your historic property. Preservation Alliance deputy director Beverly Thomas will facilitate the discussion. We welcome questions in advance by sending to bt@nhpreservation.org.

Steve Bedard has over 45 years of experience working on old structures, primarily houses and barns, dating from 1665 to 1936. Steve uses a “common sense” approach in all aspects of his work -- from building evaluations and assessments to complete exterior and interior restorations. He works with mechanical contractors to insure 21st century comfort and convenience while still maintaining the highest level of preservation standards and ethics.

Ian Blackman established Ian Blackman LLC Preservation & Restoration in 2003 and has been a champion of barn preservation ever since. Prior to starting his business, Ian was a preservation carpenter at Canterbury Shaker Village. He is a graduate of the furniture-making program at North Bennet Street School in Boston, and has been an active board member of the Preservation Alliance. He enjoys leading workshops and on-site tours that help people understand and care for historic barns, fostering greater appreciation for these valued elements of our historic past.

This is a free event, but registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
