Every old house has a history, but how do you discover what it is? Join Mae Williams and Andrew Cushing as they explore tools, tricks, and tips for researching your old house. Using case studies and a combination of sources –common and uncommon – they will share the options for any homeowner wanting to assemble a fuller understanding of their house’s history.
Andrew oversees the Bureau of Historic Sites for NH State Parks. In his spare time, he serves as president of Mascoma Valley Preservation and has two fixer-uppers of his own in his hometown of Grafton, NH. He is a graduate of Bowdoin College and received an M.S. in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mae has a Master of Arts in Historic Preservation from Plymouth State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Medieval Art History. Since 2014 when she founded her business, Unlocking History, she has been an independent historic preservation consultant and architectural historian, assisting with local planning initiatives and partnering with others to help develop rehabilitation plans. She is particularly interested in the connections between historic preservation and environmental sustainability and sees preservation as a means of celebrating cultural heritage, mitigating climate change, and creating economic growth.
