Don’t miss this rare opportunity to join historic preservation expert Drew Bedard, Hall & Parlor Historic Preservation, for a behind-the-scenes exploration of the Glidden-Towle-Edgerly House in Lee! The c. 1830 house, with attached 18th century ell, is an unusual example of a three-story, one-room-deep house of the federal period.
Attendees will be guided through the house by preservation contractor Drew Bedard to explore the interesting features of the house including the split stone foundation in the basement, the multiple fireplaces with surrounds on each floor, the brick nogging used as insultation, the original federal interior trim, doors and windows with shutters, and the timber frame construction of the third-floor ballroom ceiling.
The house has experienced difficult times in the last 40 years with unsympathetic renovations and a 2010 fire caused by arson. The new steward of the house is starting a major renovation to bring this NH State Register-listed house back to its former glory. Join us as we explore this incredible house and discuss recommended preservation practices and suggested phasing for what promises to be a most interesting and challenging DIY project. Whether you’re working on your own old house project, are a historic house buff, or just looking to spend the afternoon with other old house enthusiasts, you won’t want to miss this program!
