Historic structures are the key components of our downtowns and village centers in New Hampshire. Investment and rehabilitation of these buildings makes a substantial contribution to preserving community character.
If you own a historic resource and are seeking assistance in rehabbing it for commercial use, the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance and its partners can provide information and resources to get you started. One of the newest tools is a tax incentive for the rehabilitation of downtown structures, known as RSA 79-E.
Other sites and organizations that may provide assistance are listed below:
NH Division of Historical Resources, which administers the federal tax credit program.
NH Community Development Finance Authority, for certain types of funding assistance
USDA Rural Development; provides funding for certain uses
National Trust for Historic Preservation; offers a variety of assistance for commercial properties

The Alliance’s Field Service Program can advise you on how to get the best information about appropriate treatment options, consultants and contractors and share examples of similar successes or best-practice models.
